Russia

The best countries to be a social entrepreneur 2019

2016 Rank: 31

Country summary

Russia scored joint second place, along with China, Germany and the USA, for younger people having a positive impact on the social enterprise sector. Social entrepreneurship is gaining momentum in the country, propelling its ranking in this category to 23rd from 43rd in 2015. Its overall ranking rose 8 places to 23rd.

Expert view

The general level of entrepreneurial activity is still unacceptably low. Nevertheless, it is social entrepreneurship that not only can and should accelerate “filling the gaps” of many social and environmental problems in Russia, but also can and should create a case of future-oriented business.
